The American Studies course satisfies the second year of required U.S History and the third year of English. This course examines who is a part of the American conversation, what they are saying, and how their words have shaped the concept of this country. American Studies is team-taught in a two-period block with an English and a Social Studies teacher. Students will use literature, history, media, art, architecture, theater, music, and dance to study and understand the American experience.
This course is recommended for students who are creative and analytical thinkers interested in the challenge of piecing together multiple sources, views and perspectives to gain a greater understanding of American History and Literature. American Studies replaces the required courses English III and U.S. II/Issues in 20th Century History.
